Kitchen wall ideas?
Question:I was going to skim plaster and paint my kitchen walls but I fancy the idea of wall coverings, anyone have any idea of ideal wall coverings? Stainless steel looks good but don't want to overdo it with SS. I have a light maple kitchen.
Answers:
paint it light sage green. real purty w/ maple, not to heavy color either
If you want wallpaper, you should be able to go to any paint store with a wallpaper section or wallpaper store and check out wallpaper books, like you check out books at a library. That way you can take them home and hold the samples up to your cabinets and see how they look.
i just used this sculpted tin material (its not tin, but has the appearance of tin) in my kitchen as a back splash, but you could use it on a larger scale. its easy to install, and i found it at lowes. it comes in a varity of colors...siver, copper, gold, and one more, i can't remember. it looks amazing. its something that you may see in older turn of the century buildings, but it has a modern look still. hope this helps
stainless would be your best bet as it is very hygenic and cleans easily
How about a washable wallpaper? Possibly in a texture that you like. Maybe a soft yellow or gold. There are books and books of samples at the building supply stores. and you might just find one that you love. You could do one wall in this and paint the rest. Have fun. If you do like the SS, it could be incorporated around the sink area, but doesnt sound like it goes with the light maple.
Stainless steel over a big area is VERY expensive and is hard to keep lookign clean.
Better for walls to look at a Laminate (Formica - have a wide range of vertical and horizontal finishes that can be bought by the sheet (see google for suppliers)
You also do not need to skim the walls - better to build a FLAT stud wall just in front and then get a demountable panel of WBP Ply that you can apply (using contact adhesive) the laminate to after cutting socket holes etc and then use a router to finish things off to get that perfect finish!
The other plus with using panels is that if you get bored with the colour scheme you can change things easily!
there are so many faux wall decorating ideas now
i love the sponged look..and its cheaper than reg., wallcoverings and i find it faster..i dont by glazes to work with on this project..i get 2 colors a dark and a light to match and use the lightest one sparingly..this effect is soo awesome..go online and look up faux finishes thees some totally awesome ones and i think youd like it as well..also the good side to this is..u cant make a mistake..and also the walls can be washed at times and also wont peel like wallpaper after a period of years...like the seams commin apart in spots
How about bead board to chair rail height, then paint or paper the upper half.
Personally, I like wallpaper. Beadboard is another great wallcovering. You could put beadboard on the lower third of the wall and paint above it.
