Are engineered hardwood floors just as good as solid hardwood floors?

Question:

Answers:
they look great until you scratch them, then you realize there is no way to repair short of popping out the board. in there favor you don't have the sanding dust and waiting days for poly to dry. we have both-prefer the hardwood

No. You can't refinish them as they age and they sound cheap and hollow when you walk on them.
I don't think so because engineered are just a basic top coat and that seems to wear much easier. I have also found it scratches a lot easier. My neighbor had these floors and after cleaning ( and she is a neat freak) the floors didn't hold up to the cleaners ( she used minimal water) Just my opinion.
We actually installed the snap and lock type (purchase from Lowe's) in my mother's kitchen which is the most used area of her home. They look wonderful and have been very durable. They have held up to high traffic and the grand-kids. I am considering installing the same in my dinning room.
NO, however in today's economics even well off couples are not going to put geuine hard wood floors in their homes. It's like building a home in it's entirety of brick. Brick houses today are not brick but have a wood frame and brick shell. The old thinking of design dosen't really apply anymore unless you want to pay out our a55 for a house!
