Question about building permits?
Question:Ok.thanks to neighbor's kids we need a fence. We finally decided since privacy panels are far to expensive, we would make a fence out of lattice which would serve the purpose (and hopefully look nice too)
We have an existing chain link fence (but the little darlings climb over it and throw trash in our yard) so I am going to make a 6' tall lattice fence inside our property (our side of the chain link fence).
My question is this.is a permit neccessary for a project like this? I don't even know who to call about permits. I'm guessing the city but not sure which dept. Also.would anyone possibly know (I'm sure it's different in different areas) a ballpark of how much it would cost to get a permit for something like this?
Answers:
Contact your towns construction permit dept, I'm sure they will want you to get a permit, they are looking for any money they can get from you. I recently got a permit for a fence and I had to bring them a copy of my survey and "draw" where my fence would be and was approved the next day and had to pay $25.00. It all depends on the length of the fence and your town. Did you try talking to the brats parents? Maybe a big mean dog would help. just kidding. Lots of luck to you!
Building permits are issued by the town's building department. Sometimes it is called the Building official's office, or the building inspector's office. In my town, in upstate NY, my fence permit cost $25.00.
where Ilive you do not need a permit to put up a fence ,but check your local laws to be sure.
