Is $300 too much to spend on a convertible lounger/futon from Wal-Mart.?

Question:I really want it, but everyone is telling me that it's too much to spend on a futon. Take a look and please tell me what you think.

It is a very sharp looking lounger, it looks like a clean contemporary sofa. It seems long in length which I like. It also seems much thicker than other ones I have seen and all of this will add to the cost. The truth is Walmart does not manufacture the furniture.they just sell it. So it does not matter where you buy one as it could still not be the best. So, I suggest giving it a try in the store if you can...a test drive so to speak. Yes there are futons out there that are $100 or so cheaper but they also look like it. This one does not.

I say that it is a bit pricey when you think of Walmart BUT on looks alone I think it is really sharp and I would put it in my home or in a home I stage and design for my clients. Truthfully, it has a high-end tailored look with out the price, so I say go for it, if it speaks to you. I always look at a sofa or like to see if I can get 2 years out of it to where it looks good & will hold up. If I get that, I am happy.

That looks pretty good (and cheap!). I would say yes. But, have you ever seen Ikea's deals? They're quite good and cheap!), too.

If it's truly what you want and you can afford it, then go for it. Simple things in life often give us the most pleasure.
walmart is crap... get it somewhere where it will actually but good quality
Yes it is and they are not made well my daughter bought one and it fell apart after a couple of weeks.
Not really, that's kinda nice but you might be able to get something nicer from a store or mattress shop that sells these for a living though...

My husband and I bought a futon from Walmart once. It was the wood frame one with the magazine rack on the side. The legs became twisted, mangled and broken within two weeks and we found ourselves holding the stupid thing up with metal boxes and 2x4's. The problem was that the actual frame was not nearly big enough and the feet were spaced too close together and held on with cheap solder. When we both sat on it on the same side at the same time, the whole thing would tip forward on the two front legs causing them to snap off. We spent two hours putting it together and $174 on sale at Walmart to throw it out in less than two months. Mind you, my husband and I are NOT overweight by any means and Walmart would not take it back or issue a refund.

If you like the look of the futon, you may want to think about a day-bed instead. My sister has one and their much sturdier, and probably not much more expensive either. Check it out!

If you decide to purchase the futon at Walmart, make sure you keep your receipt and get written permission from the manager to return the item if it is at all defective. Keep the packaging too. (Just in case). Hope this helps!
Wal-mart is nice sometimes for things but not furniture its gotta be cheaply made, look online and see what you can find in discounted websites, just because something is cheaper doesnt mean its better.
I hate to say it, because I sooooo dislike Wal-Mart, but that's a great deal and a mighty fine looking piece of furniture. Anyone who's telling you that's too much hasn't shopped for furniture. (Consider that a decent sofa bed will run you $800, minimum.)

I would, though, checkout overstock.com. They've had a few on there that's similar in style to the one on Wal-Mart's site. And shipping's only $2.95, or something.

Lots of luck!
yes wayyyy to much for that, try ikea for the same look at half the cost! or craigslist.com or ebay. good luck.
I bought a futon about 7 years ago for $300 from a mattress store. It was nice quality and the mattress pad had spring coils in it as well. It definately held up better than mattress pads without coils that friends had purchased.

I agree with the suggestions for Ikea and overstock.

I would also try Craigs list, etc for the frame. Maybe you could buy a new mattress and get the frame second hand.

happy shopping!
