Do you have a hard time letting go of old furniture?

Question:i have a king size canopy bed (dark wood frame), with lighting and mirrors at the "ceiling" part of the canopy, its a beautiful bed but i've had that bed for over 12 years. it now has war marks, needs one or two very minor repairs, possibly repainted/polished, and it has to be assembled by furniture people otherwise it can be a disaster if not assembled properly.

I have alot of years and memories in that bed, its beautiful when its put together but with all the work it'll take to get it fresh & "new" again, i could get a brand new bedroom set. i dont want to sell it. a part of me wants a brand new bedroom set but i'm so attached to this bed, its also "one of a kind" you dont find beds like this much anymore.

do any of you have a hard time letting go of stuff you've had for so many years? how do you get rid of that feeling?

Answers:
NOTHING SAYS STUFF HAS TO BE NEW!

If you love it, keep it. Don't feel bad about it, either. I really think it's all the advertising we're constantly seeing that makes us feel like we "have" to have new stuff.

ugh. that happens to me all the time. i had this awsome blue couch. (it was so 90's) but i loved it anyways. it was so comfortable. i could just come home & plop down on it & just fit right perfect in it. idk how to describe it. it ended up falling apart & i had to throw it away.

ur bed sounds nice tho. (not in a creeppy pervert way) but it sounds like a nice piece of furniture. i think that if u really like it that much, u could sand it down, refinish it urself. its not really that hard. ive done it before. it can actually be fun, if u like that sort of thing.

but if u dont, then just think of it like this, getting new furniture is a new opportunity to make some new memories in it--if ya kno what i mean ; )
My sympathy goes out to you. I had a car that gave me pleasure and memories but finally had to be 'BURIED'.
Perhaps an auction or house interior sale would find a nice home for it.

Wow, I get attached to some things in life but furniture wouldn't be one of them. We move a lot and build new homes each time so I get to introduce new furniture and toss the "old" or sell it to the new owners. It's fun and cleansing.
