Double coat of paint?

Question:Does putting two coats of paint on your deck make the paint come off faster as the deck ages as oppose to putting one coat?

Answers:
Not in my experience, it doesn't. It will prolong the duration between having to repaint, an inevitable fact of life with all outdoor decking.
But it won't make it any easier when the paint starts to weather out.

well here is the secret dude...if its water based paint thin the mix with water for the first coat and that will allow the paint to soak down into the wood.... and let the next coat bond even better

for oil based thin out the paint with thinner and coat the wood with thin coat first and then the second coat will adhere and be bad to da bone if its applyed right it will last a lOOOOOOOOOOOng time
2 coats as opposed to 1 coat isnt really different when your painting a deck i had a deck painted and had to keep up with it probrably once a year you will need to recoat it .use a really good primer for wood first then 1 coat of paint should be sufficient..
putting two coats is better!
Two coats will protect the wood from rotting better than one. Follow the can if it says two. Also there is an anti-skid additive you can purchase from the paint store. It's about $9.00 and is soft enough to walk on barefoot. have a great time on your remodeled patio!
If you can't put paint on all six sides of the lumber on your deck, it doesn't matter how many coats you put on. The most important side is the side closest to the ground. In most situations I understand that it is not usually feasable, but if you can, that in itself will make all the difference. As a rule, I always put on two coats on everything, when you take the time to prep something, you might as well put on two. good luck.
I am assuming that you are talking about a deck paint and not a deck stain. There are several steps to painting your deck. First you have to determine what kind of paint is on the deck now. Is it oil or water based. If it's oil based and you try and put water based onto it it will only peel.

Assuming that you have the correct paint, first you must sand the deck to get rid of the paint that is on there and then you must wash with a deck wash. Leave overnight to dry. Then you can paint with your deck paint.

Deptending on how you prepared to deck, one coat should do it. Read the directions on the can some products suggest one coat only. Applying two coats will make the paint peel.

Good lucki
