How i remove candle wax from wood deck?
Question:we have just purchased a house that has an outside deck made with pressure treated wood. the deck is about 10 years old. there appears to be a large oil stain from a candle on the wood. we are preparing the deck to be painted. the stain is about a foot in diameter. what will work to remove the rest of the wax and the oil it has left behind to ensure the paint will stick?
Answers:
Scrape the gross amount off, try mineral spirits or paint thinner to dissolve what is left. Sand if that doesn't work with 150 grit sandpaper, may have to start with courser if it is real deep.
a pressure washer will remove the stain.
In order to remove the wax drippings, simply apply an ice cube or ice pack to the wax to harden it. Gently scrape off as much wax as you can with a plastic credit card or other nonabrasive item such as a thin, dull butter knife or a smooth, plastic ruler. Some of the wax residue may remain on the wooden furniture, especially if you have been extremely careful not to scratch the surface of your furniture. Simply use a soft, clean cloth and apply a bit of cream furniture wax to the area. Rub gently and remove the remainder of the wax .
Use boiling water and vinegar.Pour on stain at the same time. This also works for table cloths.I have never had it not work.
