The Room Store
I just bought all my furniture there (contemporary/traditional) to completely furnish my four bedroom house and I am very happy!
You can always add your own decor touches that goes w/ good quality furniture. I like Pier One Imports for the cool tropical/modern accents!
Ciao!
I have some brand new couches for sale. $800 color is peete and its micro fiber. Big couches, scotch guarded.
If you search yard sales and the newspaper you can find lots of fairly new stuff. My sister changed her furniture once a year. (nice to be rich eh) Lots of people get the stuff in their house and don't like it. Sometimes it gets taken back to the stores and you can search their clearance section. Be willing to accept a scratch or two and ask for a lower price if it big enough.
Don't know where you live but we have a store called Weekends Only. They only open on Weekends so they save a lot of overhead during the week. They too have a clearance section. I don't care what store you look in-ALWAYS ask for more off. Tell them you want it but only planned to spend such n such. It is marked way up.
Antique stores and thrift stores as a last resort.
The main thing is to have the style of room/house in mind when buying. No rule has been made that says every room has to reflect the same style or theme.
Estate sales are amazing places to aquire pieces that are worth much more than their real worth.
Secondly, thrift stores ocassionally have a few good buys, but only buy if you LOVE what you find. The problem with thrift stores is that there is so much available at such a low price that we tend to buy things we dont actually want or need.
Be picky, and if you can research what is a real "antique" and what is just 20 years old or older (the common perception of what is antique) PLEASE RESEARCH! You will be so happy to spend a little more for real antiques opposed to some guy on Ebay.
Set your standards and let it roll! Good Luck!
Try looking for a good used furniture store. If you talk to the clerk and convince him/her of your sincerity, you may get him/her to call you when good looking pieces come in.
IKEA - we did our whole house for about $6000
Try Ebay, there are always good deals. also go to antique shops you can always find beautiful stuff and you can mix up textures and styles to create a more interesting and warm feeling home.
we have a place called furniture row. it is a whole line of stores that have couches, bedroom sets, and dining sets each has there own floor store space but all the buildings are open to each other. the prices are usually decent especially on clearance sales
If you dont mind second hand items I love the thrifty section of the news paper or garage sales and flea markets. things dont always match perfectly in our house but with kids and dogs who cares if they match i just want to sit comfortably.
Rooms to go outlet!! That's where I got all my furniture. It's great if you don't mind slight imperfections.
