Why does a room look bigger when there is nothing in the room?

I disagree - I think the rooms look smaller when there's nothing in it. Have you ever stood in an empty room wondering how you're going to fit all the furniture in it? And then when you get everything in, it fits perfectly...

because there is nothing in it, cause when there is stuff in it it looks smaller
That really isn't true. Unless your furniture is too large for the scale of the room.
I disagree because I have gone through new housing and the rooms look small, but when a decorator filled it with furniture it looked much bigger.
