Redecorating My Kitchen?
Question:I'm redecorating my kitchen. Could you please provide some tips and things I've got to keep in mind while planning a new kitchen ?
What is the feasibility of these new-age Modular kitchens ? Do the furnishings last in the Indian Scenario? How viable and cost effective is it ? Or is it even worth it ?
Answers:
Hi,
Don't go for MDF postforming shutters they don't las long.
Try to use good quality stainless steel products for the trays.
Top you can think of Granite which is maintainence free.
Or you can think of Correan base but it'll cost much.
As we Indians use much oil the dadoing (tiling on the wall) keep it till 3' height.
Keep all the essentials (like what we use for tadka and chaipatti etc) below 7' level and not under 2'6" lvl
Rest you can get some ideas from magazines and best is hire a professional
I love redecorating but since you didn't say what size kitchen you are working on or what you needed to replace it is hard to give any advice. If you have a small kitchen however a good place to get some handy tips is to visit new modular homes or mobil homes and campers. They have great decorators.
If you are happy with the light and air flow you get in your kitchen, then next is the layout. Do you want to change/move anything? Are there enough power points to meet the needs of all your appliances? Is there enough cupboard space? Is the oven [wall, under bench] in the right place?
Make yourself a kitchen plan to scale showing the window/s, door/s etc and use toy furniture to 'set out' your new design. This way you can get a better idea of the placement of things. Then if you are happy with it you can go ahead and design your own modular kitchen from scratch. Saves a heap of money, you get exactly what you want, where you want it and great satisfaction knowing you did it all by yourself. Most good DIY stores will have consultants in-store to help you through this process. Let your creative juices go and Enjoy!!
