I need some decorating help..?

Question:i am moving in with my friend to help him and me financially. He has an apartment with 1 big bedroom, 1 bathroom, kitchen, small dining area, and a just guessing about 15 feet by15 feet ft living room. now the living room is going to bacisally be my room and still be the living room. i am thinking about getting a futon so during the day a sofa and during the night my bed. anyway we have no type of imagination on how to set the up and make it look hot. does anyone have any ideas on what we can do, how to set it up, any pictures or links that can give us some direction. Thanks alot for your imput

One thing you definitely want to do is keep your bedroom space separate from the living room area... Imagine, you come home from wherever it is that you've been and you have a headache, you're tired, your feet hurt and to boot, you've had an argument and your bank account could be healthier. All you want to do is lie down on your futon (which is great for your back and your stress, by the way...) and low and behold! You can't lie down. Your futon is being used by your roommates friends as... the living room space!

Make life easier on yourself. We all need a space to call our own. If you have to share the living room space for your bedroom, make certain that your space is separated (use a bookcase, a chinese screen, curtains, bamboo blinds, handmade wooden frames with funky material inside... ANYTHING!) Make certain that your roommate knows you value your privacy. I mean, how would he feel if he came home from a really rough day and found people just hanging out in his room, treating it as living room space? I doubt he'd pleased...

Let me know what you have as furniture to work with, and I'll help you come up with some ideas.

Good luck. hope it works out for you both!

well, you can get mirrors anywhere, walmart or out of a home interiors type magazine. Put them in a fun design with lots of pictures on the wall. The mirrors will make the room appear larger and pictures are always fun on the walls. I don't know how crazy or fun you want, but get some colorful mini clothespin at a craft store and hang some fishing line on the wall and clip pictures on with the clothes pins. Kind of appears that they are floating up there. I had it on my walls before i moved in with my boyfriend and i loved it.
A daybed style would be more comfortable than a futon. They make any styles; not just white rod iron. They make wood, black iron etc. Use it as a bed at night, throw the comforter up in the day and use a bunch of pillows around the back and sides. It will be comfy to sit on and watch tv.
If you want to divide the sleeping area from the Living Room, you can use screens, roll up shades hung from the ceiling or you can hang wooden panels from hooks on the ceiling. Check out www.hgtv.com for lots of great ideas.

Good Luck!
