Couches/Loveseats?

Question:Crazy Question: What type of couch out there is good with the summer months. My couch now, (I don't even know what upholstery it is) is hot. What I mean is that when I or anyone else sits on it, it make you hotter than you are and in the summer it is the worst. I really need to get an new couch, any ideas of what material I should get.

Answers:
This is a tough one because the stuffing inside the sofa will also add to you feeling hot - its kinda like insulation and will retain heat.

I would look for a sofa with a cotton or denim like fabric. No microsuedes, velours or polyester fabric.

If you find a sofa with cotton or a denim like fabric - make sure it has been stain treated because these fabrics will stain very easliy.

Good Luck.

Sounds like you have micro-suede. I would look for a slipcover.
It sounds like you have a plush or sueded fabric, which is usually made of synthetic materials. I would get a couch with a heavy cotton material, they are usually treated with stain protection, so it will resist stains and can be cleaned. If you live in an area where the climate is always warm,I would get a couch with open sides and bottom. They can have wooden arms or no arms, whichever you prefer. That lets a cross breeze through. They usually have three cushions on seat and three on back. This is good as you can rotate the cushions and flip them for equal wear and to prevent sagging in one area. If it is where the sun will hit it, this rotating will prevent uneven fading over time. If you are in a multi climate area I would still go with cotton, and with a couch that has one solid cushion across the seat, and one solid cushion across back. This will keep everyone sitting at one level, but make sure it is on the firm side and has a good solid spring structure underneath. When you have those sink out of sight ,soft, cushions, they tend to engulf you making you hotter. A good outward curve to the back to support your back, and no head pillows at the top that force you to lean forward. A couple of small pillows, are all you really need for looks at each end,or for back support. If it comes with 5 or 6 toss pillows, the extras will be great to put on other furniture in the room, upholstered chairs, wooden chairs, window seats, to tie them all together with the colors in the sofa. This will make the couch more a part of the decor without having to buy all new furniture. Stay away from, synthetics, plush velour, velvet, microfibre,or leather. Your legs will stick to leather in hot weather, and you will sweat, even if it might feel cooler at first. If you are buying it for a sun room,or patio room, then go with a rattan, wicker or open design, with a cotton fabric. If you find a couch that you like as far as everything is perfect but the color or print, but the cost is low or it is a steal on clearance, buy it ,take the money you saved and go to a fabric store near you,and look at their selection of cotton upholstery fabric, check out discount stores that have a fabric dept for added savings. Pick out a fabric you like, they will usually have a chart ,you can pick which one is most like your piece of furniture, and they can tell you how much you'll need to purchase, always get at least 4 extra yards for matching up designs or mistakes. Ask them if they have a list of people in the area that do upholstering for a reasonable price. Most have a couple you can call and find out availability and prices for labor. Be sure to tell them you already have the fabric, and tell them you will go with them to purchase other notions needed to do the job, if they don't already have them. If you would prefer they pick out the fabric,be sure to go with them,as you know what colors and prints you can live with, and if you can, bring a paint swatch of your wall color and rug colors, have them go to your home first to get a feel for the space you have to work with, and the style of your home. It may sound like a lot of bother, but believe me,as someone who has done upholstery jobs for customers of a discount store, it will guarantee your satisfaction with the finished product, cause once it's done it's yours, there's no returning it,or having it redone, unless you pay to have it redone again.
I hope I have been helpful.
Bamboo?
suedes,velvets,leathers..this are not advisable during summer months. opt for cottons and soft fabrics. to be cost efficient, you can invest on a cotton slip cover so that you dont have to buy a new couch.
