I have sold 3 homes. I never follow that rule. I always made sure to get rid of the clutter. I did not get rid of anything such as family pictures; etc.
Just made sure it was nice and clean and clutter free including the closets and storage areas. You want the house to appear very large.
I never did change curtains or colors. I have always been told by the realtors that my houses show very well. I have sold 2 in Nov. and have had my house decked out for Christmas.
Do not go to any expense to change curtains. Wall color is one thing; but not curtains. As far as curtains I use blinds and window toppers and scarves.
Good Luck!!
P.S. I sold my last house in 1 hour...the realtor never had to put up the sign or list it..
from what i have been told by a relator & seen on DESIGN TO SELL... u need the rooms neutral but some punch on beds.. curtains... pillows... Kitchens r the biggest sellers so the more accessable to cooking & parties & gatherings the better. Also keep everything uncluttered.
ck. out http://www.hgtv.com & look up DESIGN TO SELL programs... that may help
change it to a color that make the rooms look bigger. So it really depends on the color of your walls.
The best treatment for your windows when selling your house is letting the light in. Using a sheer window treatment in white is the way to go to let the most light in. When I counsel clients on decorating to sell (home staging), in most instances, when the view outside a window permits it, the last thing I want to do is cover it and hinder daylight from helping make the sale. If the view is one that doesn't help sell the house, then by all means, cover it. Make it attractive. But still try and follow the number 1 rule: Let the light in!
Leave them how they are and tell your realator that you will give the buyers a allowance for window coverings, most ppl repaint and carpet and stuff like that so why throw out money..
It doesn't matter what curtains you have up, as long as the walls are neutral. The darker ones sound fine, they will make the rooms look warmer. Decorations are important, and the home should feel warm and comfortable.
I have sold a home, and bought two. I have some experience with Realtors and home buying.
I would not worry about changing the bedroom curtains as long as they are in good shape and clean. Clean and crisp as well as your blinds. I would leave the blinds open if the view is not that good and totally up if you have a nice view. Your living room sounds fine. Because you have blinds I don't think it neccessery to change your bedroom curtains.
