Advice & suggestions GREATLY appreciated on decorating a "50's style" kitchen!?
Question:My mom is redoing her kitchen in the reminisant of "50's diner" style. We have just started to think about the design and like the bright red, black & chrome/silver look.
We are open for ideas on the type flooreing to go with. She has considered the black& white square tiles used in the day, but that seems a bit too much for her.
Also, we are stumped on the color for the paint. She has a white tile backsplash on alot of are, so its really only the eating wall the is all painted and then small areas on other walls.
Like most open floor plan houses now, the kitchen can be seen from most area in the house. Keeping that in mind, we dont want to go "crazy" into the 50's, just with 50's touches.
Any input is of great value.

Since you have an open floor plan, I'd just go with white walls, and put up 50's era framed ads. Old Coca-Cola art would go with the color scheme. I'm stumped on the floor, as I would have gone with the black and white tile.
Try for a row of mirrored tiles behind/across the eating area, and start looking for a retro chrome dinette set...shiny chromed [silver] legs, red formica [hard plastic] top, band of chrome around the edge of the table-top. Sometimes you can even find chairs to match with padded fake leather seats and backs. Look for a wall-clock with a neon ring around it, or a kit-kat clock with a pendulum tail. If you like indoor-outdoor type carpeting [easy to clean up] a nice deep gray with perhaps a patterning in it? You can always put mats in front of the sink and the stove for added protection. Have fun!
You could do a black and white rug under your chrome table and chairs and if you didn't want chairs you could do a diner booth.
Also I would get old 45's (records) and put them on the walls as decorations with music notes.
Get an old steering wheel witha knob on it to hang up. On the knob hang fuzzy dice.
Take a pair of penny loafers and make saddle shoes out of tennis shoes, and hang them up as well.
You could,if you want to get creative,make a poodle skirt(actually half of one) with a white blouse for a girl, then take a white t-shirt with roll ups sleeves and cigarette box underneath, old jeans with cuffs rolled up for the guy
