How To Shop for the right mattress?

Answers:
Sleep on different people's beds. Once you find the one you're most comfortable sleeping in, ask them what mattress they're using.
Lay down on the bed, relax and use your judgement.
I didnt spend enough time with my bed i purchased and i suffer today because it is too hard.
I have to spend more $$ to get a topper to make it comfertable, when i could have just found the best mattress first hand.
I just bought a mattress not too long ago. In my research, I discovered that the mattress industry is, unfortunately, one of the shadiest. The first thing you'll find is that no two retailers sell exactly the same mattress. They'll have virtually the same two, but with different names. This is done to make it hard for the consumer to comparison shop.
Most sites tell you to stick with one of the three big-name manufacturers: Sealy, Serta or Simmons. Also, buy from a reputable dealer. Within these rules, eliminate the cheapest mattresses and the most expensive. From there, just go to as many mattress stores as you can and lay on as many as possible. And really lay on them for a while. You might even want to take a notebook with you to make note of which ones you like.
You ought to be able to use the above strategy to make a nice shortlist (say no more than five mattresses). Wait at least a couple days, then go lay down on all the mattresses on your shortlist. Buy the one that's most comfortable.
Finally, I also read that the markup on mattresses is ridiculous. If the mattress you want to buy isn't on sale, you should be able to negotiate at least 20% off the price.
I ended up spending $1600 (US) on a king-size mattress. With it came the box springs and frame. I've been extremely happy with the purchase. I followed the procedure outlined above.
Good luck and good night!
Read the fine print. If you buy a new mattress they may require you to have a mattress cover on it from day one or your warranty will be void. Also pillow top mattress are pricey but have problems with sagging. Just because they want more money doesn't make them better. I have spent way to much money on two different styles of mattress and both my wife and my back have suffered greatly. We are now on Temper pedic. Funny how the pain went away with in 3 days. I am still not a fan of this style but have to admit that not having to wake up in the middle of the night to take an aspirin for back pain does say something good is happening. They do have a trail period with there mattresses and they also have different firmness. When you go to the show room you will probably see the tempa pedics near somewhere warm. That is because the material needs to be warm or they will feel like rocks. Once in your own home for 3 to 4 days it will soften up. Good luck in your search.
