Air Conditioning Question?
Question:I havent had my a/c properly installed yet because of the way the window is in my apartment. Instead i have set it on an end table and have it facing my bed. it appears to be blowing cold air so far. Im just concerned of this being a hazard. Is it ?
Answers:
The three things to make sure of are:
- that the back end (the end not blowing the cold air) is exhausting the hot air outside somehow - if not, it will actually make your apartment warmer
- that the condensed moisture (caused by cooling) drains freely from the back of the air conditioner to the outdoors
- that it can't fall over, either in your apartment or out the window!
No, it is not hazardous, inefficient yes. The front end of the window unit blows out cold air, the other end blows out hot air (which should be going out the window), warming up the room you're trying to cool. You're going to have a high electricity bill.
Two problems.Where is the condensate water going to drain to, as it removes humidity. Second...you are wasting your time and money. The heat exchange is taking place inside the same room (As the front cools, the heat is being exhausted out the back of the unit, right back into the room).
Just to extend onto maddogs answer the other important thing for the water to drain freely is it needs to be set on a slight angle with the back of aircon facing down slightly so the water can drain freely. Otherwise it can build up and damage the motor, rust some of the machine and stop it working effectively.
No, It is not a hazard. The A/C just circulates air over cooled coils, sucking out hot air and moisture, and blowing in cold air. Though not very economical with the cold air fighting the hot air coming from the back of the unit.
P.S. there is a portable air conditioner in the market that is made to work anywhere in your home.
yes it`s a hazard you might get electricuted `cause of the condensation, where`s the water now ,do you have tubes collecting the water and a container,or you might slip and hit your head
