Remember, if you're buying the cheap roller covers don't expect too much out of them. First, you need to buy a "5 n' 1", its sorta like a painters utility knife. Wal-mart has em for about $5. The rounded side of the 5 n'1 is for getting the rest of the paint out of the roller and for cleaning it too. Just hold your roller and run the 5 n'1 down the roller (its rounded to perfectly fit the cover) and the excess paint comes out. Do the same with warm water to clean it. Use your hands while its under water and twist, getting more paint out. Make sure there is no paint on the inside of the roller. Get ends real good with 5 n' 1. When water runs clear and you cant get anything else out with the 5 n' 1, its clean. Get excess water out with your 5 n' 1, it will make is almost dry. Hang it up to finish drying, no need to put it in a bag or anything.
clean well with warm soapy water allow to dry store in plastic bay.
I have never been able to get all the paint out. Rollers are very good at holding on to some paint.
What I do is rinse the roller off very well in warm water. Then I use a towel to get as much water off as possible. I then wrap the roller in aluminum foil or plastic wrap.
If that roller was used with white paint I only use it for a light colored paint. You don't want to have light and dark colors mixing.
If you let the roller dry out after rinsing it will get hard from the remaining paint and it will leave all sorts of marks on the wall. That is why I wrap it in plastic.

wash it completely each time you use it in warm sudsy water. rinse it really well, and make sure you have it clean all the way to the bottom.
Buy a good quality one -not a cheapie. If you use the edge of a scraper to scrape all of the paint off it back into the can first. Then,if it is latex wash it up in the sink. You can keep it moist in some water until you need it. Then, shake it out or use the scraper again to remove the moisture. It will work fine. If you are using oil base. Do the same process but use a solvent instead of water.
After each use, wash it off very well and put it away to dry. It should be okay if you do that.
