Do I need a primer if I'm going from white to a light green color?
Question:
Answers:
Nope...and if you are able to paint a very thorough coat, you may just need one coat.
It seems like lately primer has really been pimped by commericals and the home improvement networks.
There's only three big reasons you NEED primer: New drywall, repairing a wall or going from a dark color to a light color.
No. I never use primer on anything. One coat of paint will do as much as primer in most cases unless you are going from one extreme to the other.
You really only need a primer if you go from oil based paint to water-based paint. That is so that the new paint will adhere.
Primer only has to do with adhesion, not color. If you are painting on a glossy surface you can either use gloss cutter or sand with 150 grit sand paper but no primer needed.
no
No primer needed unless it is a high gloss material, which will be unlikely. Make sure your green paint is high quality. Sherwin Williams Promar 200 flat or eggshell sheen is sufficient. Give yourself plenty of time. Tape off your baseboards with blue painter's tape. Plan on giving everything two coats for best results! Good Luck!
everyone is correct. No
But you ought to try Pittsburgh Manor Hall
It really works
The only way for the answer to be no is if your walls are 100% white. Not off white as most walls tend to be. As a designer, I would recommend that you prime the walls because when you use primer, whatever color you select will be truer. If you go out and take the time to purchase paint, why not make sure it is the color that you want it to be when it gets on the wall?
