I would like to have bigger windows in my house?
Question:What are the steps I have to take. My husband says that we just can't cut the wall out and install a window, I feel like we can. Please help!
Answers:
Yes you can just cut a hole and install a window. But,you need to know exactly what size window you will be installing first.
Then you need to measure out the area on your wall.Score the drywall and remove it from ceiling to floor.Be very careful of possible wiring in the wall. You will need to cut out the wall studs to make room for the window, then frame up the rough opening. You would want to use at least a 2"x10" header and lots of jack studs.
Remember you are removing a piece of the wall and want to put back as much support as possible.I would wait till the last minute to remove the exterior portion of the wall,in case of weather or something. It will be time consuming as you will have to re-sheetrock and paint the inside wall. And trim out the window.
The only direction you can easily expand a window is downward. Up or sideways gets into changing the structure, namely the king and jack studs and the header over the top. This will essentially require removing the whole outer section of siding or what ever you have out there, the drywall, rebuilding that section of wall and then installing the window.
heys this d only way u need to cut ur walls
I do that quite often in my work. It will take more work than the same size window, but it is not really difficult. Just need to support the roof load and reframe the wall to new window size. Hire a decent carpenter and let 'er rip!
