Ideas for decorating a 10 year old daughter's bedroom?
Question:My daughter just turned 10 and wants her room to be redecorated to something a little more "grown up". Cost is of course, a consideration, and she likes the colors orange and purple primarily. Ideas? Websites?
Thanks!

Look for solid color sheets/comfortars. Throw pillows also. I would look for accent pieces to decorate the room, lamps / lamp shades, because they can be inexpensive and easy to replace. Also look around for photos that she likes, you can have them blown up to different sizes frame them and decorate her room like that. Have her paint the frames the colors that she wants, you can by cheap frames anywhere. You can also look for framed mirrors any size and shape, hang them in patterns on the wall. You can go to a window shop get piece of glass, or clear plastic 2 by 2 or whatever shape screw it to the wall and let her have a place to write notes, she can use a grease pencil, or dry erase markers. So she can clean it herself... also an area where she can pin up pictures, and notes, a cork board... there are so many ideas...look at dyinetwork.com,www. hgtv.com, have her help and have fun with it. There are so many colors, shapes out there to play with. I would stay away from flowers, dragonflys, butterflies...stuff she will change her mind about often between the next few years... I would do a friends theme...
You could paint the walls a medium to dark purple and have accents of orange. I think doing a geometric shapes theme would look great with those colors and is also more grown-up.
Oh what fun this can be.honestly, paint works wonders.does she currently have a comforter on her bed. Can you sew? If you can how about a canvas duvet - she could use paints and make her own design for the duvet cover - does her current bed have a "headboard ?" If not, a piece of plywood covered with batting and fabric stapled over that in a favorite fabric is easy and cheap. The one thing to keep in mind is that more than likely,
she is going to want to re-do this room in the future - pink and purple were colors that my daughters used and their friends to
the other idea I have is does she have a "favorite poster?" or a calendar with pictures of dogs, or shoes or whatever? You can frame these inexpensively for the walls. Does she play on a sports team? How about a shelf with photos of the team and events she has done, dancing recital etc. With the purple and orange I would also include green in the color scheme.
How about painting one wall a deep green, "weekend getaway" by Pottery Barn is one that comes to mind and on the windows "a solid color of the purple in a roll up blind. The roll up blind is simple to make and you can take wide ribbon
to help keep it rolled...have fun no matter what...you might just discuss with her what it is she wants.how about a theme? Good luck.
