Which direction should a ceiling fan turn in the summer?
Question:
Answers:
clockwise i believe, but basically if you feel air, thats the correct way.
I have them in every room .
In winter you want to feel blowing on you Force hot air down.
In summer opposite pull cool up from floor and hot gose down along walls and cools along floor.
Now if you want to feel cool have it blow on you but you are getting the hot air from ceiling.
But That is just what I've found works bet over years.
I would have to say clockwise so that the wind is blowing at you
the fan should turn counter clockwise. some fans may be different though the switch is generally in the down position
A down draft is created when the fan turns anti-clockwise.The fan switched over creates an up draft for warm air to be uplifted and spread, as for winter use.
Straight from Hunter fan:
"Ceiling fans are usually adjusted once in the fall and again in
the spring to blow upward in the winter and downward in the
summer. You may run them in either direction at anytime, however, as you prefer. Experiment as you like to obtain maximum comfort from your fan."
and...
"How do fans cool the room - do they actually lower the temperature?
A ceiling fan cools by creating a wind chill effect; it does not lower the room temperature. Wind chill effect makes you feel cooler by accelerating the evaporation of perspiration on your skin. It is the feeling you get when you open the window in a moving car. If you have a ceiling fan in a room whose temperature is 80 degrees, running the fan can create a wind chill effect that makes you feel as if the temperature is 72 degrees. When used in conjunction with an air conditioner, a ceiling fan can lower energy costs, because you can set the thermostat of your air conditioner at a higher temperature. "
If you want it to cool...definitely clockwise.
