beige--gives you way more options. you can drape hot pink or lilac fabrics on the walls/windows, use colorful slipcovers, artwork, furniture, area rugs etc.
Best to pick a versatile color so that you won't regret a gaudy choice later.

I am a fan of hot pink...BUT for a room I would go with lilac...like a pale/pastel lilac. I went through my whole painting rooms bright, vibrant colors and it just gets old really fast.
How about Lilac with Beige trim with small accents of hot pink (say flowers or small hearts etc.)
