I just painted my bathroom and the paint peels right off, like plastic! Help!?
Question:I just finished painting my bathroom a deep red in a satin finish. It was bugger to get enough paint on for it to look good. So after it was all said and done, I pulled the painters tape off and off came the darn paint! I tried to pull the tape so it wouldn't pull the paint off with it, but it sure came anyway! I have never painted with a satin finish before! Flat paint always bonds with the primer. So, I know I have to re-paint (this time with a FLAT finish!). Is there an EASY way to get all the paint off? I know it will just peel if I pull it, but is there some sort of tool or solution to put on it to make it a quicker job? I already wasted enough of my time (and $25 for the can of paint)! Ugh! I'm so frustrated!

The problem you describe sounds like it could be a couple of things. First if you tried to paint over an oil based paint and you used a latex paint it will peel off. As a rule of thumb, you never paint your bathroom with a flat finish, the humidity in the bathroom will ruin the paint. You'll have to strip the paint off first ask your paint department for a paint stripper. Wash the walls really good once their stripped and then only use a kitchen and bath paint or your can use a pearl finish or semi-gloss finish paint. When you strip the paint you just did, if the first coat doesn't come off you can determine if it's oil or water based by rubbing the surface nailpolish remover something with acetetone in it. If it comes off then it is water based, if it just shines up its oil. You'll have to prime again once you've stripped and then sorry but you'll have to do it all again. If you allow the two coats to dry completely you shouldhave no problem removing the tape, use painters tape only and remove bit by bit don't yank it. Good luck
try lightly sanding the walls with fine sandpaper and use a flat for the base coat and then sponge on the satin finish or semi-gloss.
Go to Home Depot or other home improvement store and get a paint that's specifically for bathrooms (moisture).
did you accidentally get oil based paint? That stuff peels like an orange if you get it i accidentally painted my bedroom with it once. NEVER AGAIN will that happen lol. If that isn't it use a good primer and paint again.
I think what you need is primer for steamy bathroom.
Sounds like you painted latex over oil. If its not been on very long hot water[or steam] ought to help take if off. If the under surface is shiney sand it till it is dull. Use a good bonds primer, sherwin williams has a good product ,and repaint. The satin paint probably is not the problem
