Buying cheap carpet for dorm room?

Question:I'm going into my 2nd year of college and am looking to furnish my room with some carpeting. My roommate and I decided that we don't want the university offered carpeting because it's low quality. Does anyone have any advice for buying cheap carpeting that is of at least mediocre quality?

Answers:
I've had good luck going to carpet shops and looking for remnant pieces of good carpeting...if you measure your room [open spaces, no need to have it wall to wall under all the furniture, right?] you might be able to score a piece or two of really nice carpeting...and the remnant price will be amazingly low. After all, the carpet shop can't use pieces when they do a full installation, right? So whatever's left from a fancy job, they take back to the shop...check it out!

Last year my roommate and I just bought some from the girls downstairs. Reasonably large dorms are flooded with flyers from people buying and selling stuff they don't need that particular year during the first and last weeks of school. It's cheap because people want to get rid of it (our area rug was five bucks and nothing really wrong with it). So keep an eye out!
You could try the boxed carpet squares that you can find at Home Depot and Lowes, or you could just by a couple of "large rugs " or "mini carpets" at WalMart. I have a Carpet Rug in my living room that I bought from WalMart that measures (I THINK IT MEASURES) 6 feet by 8 feet. The colors are limited but with dorm rooms your not looking to go "GLAM" just functional. MY rug is a dark green and it seems to me that I could also get in in a blue color a tan and if I remember right, a ivory color. I paid $20.00 for it in Missouri but the price may be more where you live or less. 1-3 of these types of rugs should just about cover a dorm room floor at most college campuses.
My husband and I just bought awesome carpet for CHEAP and we actually got it from Home Depot. It is an awesome quality Berber and we got it for only 60 cents a square foot-they had some that was cheaper too, we just didnt like the color. Go in and check it out-they also usually have remnants that they have binded up for sale.
Go to your local carpet store...ask for remenents...
