Can i install ceremic tiles on top of ceramic tiles?
Question:its like overlapping u think it wont crack after i install please help i juast wanna save $$$ from the contractors.

You absolutely can. We had a ceramic floor installed in our house 10 years ago and we wanted a change. We called the company that installed the original floor and they installed right over the old one. Because the original floor was correctly installed we had no problems putting a new floor right on top. Three years later there is no cracking of tiles or grout.

Just bear in mind things like skirting boards will need to be adjusted though.

Removing the old tiles should cost you anything. Grab a hammer and do it yourself instead of paying someone.
Sorry, but that won't work. You have to install ceramic tile on a solid, smoth surface. It would be wasted time and effort if you tried to install ceramic on top of ceramic. It's not that hard to remove ceramic tile - just get a sledge hammer and start pounding away. Then, you have to smooth out the surface underneath before you put the new tile in. Good luck!
I wouldnt do that. Unless you put a wood backing and then tiles on top of that. tiles on top of tiles would break. Do it your self... very easy. you will be surprised how easy it is... Menards has all the stuff for doing yourself.
Just rip out all the old tile yourself and save the money as far as I know you cannot tile over tile. Although tile can be painted with a special paint. We painted our horrible harvest gold shower tile white a few years ago and it looks great! Doesn't get mildew in the grout either.
YES YOU CAN INSTALL TILE OVER TILE. The tile need to be firmly set (no loose tile). If people don't have the required knowledge of installing ceramic tile, then why do they answer questions. Read the back of your bag of mortar and it will state tile is a suitable sustrate..I have 24 years hard surface installation experiance...If you don't know, don't answer...People rely for our EXPERTISE in our field...
You can install tile over anything, as long as it's a smooth surface. Tiling over tile isn't a good idea, as the surface isn't smooth. The grout is most always lower than the tile itself, which means that soonner or later, your grout in the new tile will crack, break and crumble. Your tiles may also crack. Not to mention that if you're installing this on the floor, you'll need to take into account the skirting boards and the doors. you may have trouble opening and closing your doors after.
It's not hard to remove the old tile. You can do this yourself easily. And to boot, it's good frustration and anger therapy! Once you've removed your old tile, smooth the surface. My final word on the subject: You can save money now by tiling over your old tile... but in the long run, it will cost you soooo much more to fix the mess up after...
put a self leveling compound down it comes in a bag just like mortar and you mix it with water. pour it out up to an inch thick and it levels out for you. let it dry bam good to tile over. bags about 40 bucks and will do about 75 ft2. if your tiles now arent in bad shape than yea you can tile right over them, probly a good idea to rough them up maybe sand em down and off you go.
no,you should remove the old ones,and and depending where you are 8installing them use the right under layment,by putting them on top of each other you are not saving money, all you are doing is creating a problem.
Yes you can tile on top of the tiles ,but they will not look right ,you are better taking the old tiles off , and starting again it will look a lot better when the job is finish .
I do not think you can install ceramic tiles on top of ceramic tiles. If they are ugly then some people paint over them (hoping there are no scratches then cause it wlll make them look bad too), or just clean (soap and water...later bleach to get off any mold) and fix the grout and then put a nice shine of Johnson's wax on there or use windex and make the old tiles shine.
It "used to be" that with every change or upgrade like tiles you made to your kitchen or bath that your taxes increased.
But, if then you still don't like the old tiles then rip them out and start all over. Believe me though that will be a very big job. Don't attempt it unless you have mold behind them then have a contractor do that..if there's mold they may call the EPA and it will cost you a bundle.
