What kind of inexpensive modern wall decor should I put above my new chocolate colored couch?
Question:I just got a new apartment and I bought a new sofa set that are a deep chocolate brown, and I dont know what to put on the wall above the couch. I would like to incorporate some pink here and there.
Answers:
I have a great idea!
Paint the wall a light brown color.
Then, choose some of your favorite colors, and buy small cans of paint in those colors.
On the wall, paint squares (or any other shape) in the selected colors. Paint different sized squares in random locations. Do it artistically though, so it looks nice.
Wait for the paint to dry, and you're done! I did this on my wall and it looked terrific.
pinks/reds/blues/oranges/rose/ greens.. most all colors go w/ brown esp a deep brown. Clock that u can make u'rself that would modern. Frames of pix. Even empty frames w/ decor inside of them. Shelves w/ framed pix.
what does the rest of the room do for the couch? Like what else do u have that compliments the couch. That really sounds like a great color.
i would say something simple. maybe a large, white background with a darker brown random design on it. and a vase on a table by the couch with 2 or 3 pink orchids : )
are there PINK orchids?
What about a 3D wall sculpture? They're cheaper than a framed print & add a lot of visual interest. This site has a lot of examples:
Right now metal wall decor is very "in", and you can find it everywhere. You can get one big peice and center it to your couch or get two smaller peices and put them diaganol from each other (one slightly higher than the other but side by side)
Kirklands is in most malls as well as online. They have a good selection, very inexpensive. You can also pull a color from the decor and get some throw pillows with the same color in them to pull it all together and spruce it up. I also like the idea of shelving with vases and/or small plants. Hobby Lobby has a great selection of colonial style shelves and decor that is inexpensive. Pier One Imports has awesome catalogs. You can order them online for free, and get some cool ideas from them. I personally like a deep red and cream with a dark brown, but pink could work too, especially for spring.

Buy a few artist's canvases at an art supply store and paint them, either solid colors or geometric shapes. You can use any colors you want, depending on what else you have in the room, and if you make sure to paint the edges, you can just hang them up for a modern, contemporary look. Get enough to hang in a row above the couch.
For the same type of thing, you could also frame decorative paper or fabric. Fabric remnants are cheap and are a good way to bring in a little bit of color.
You could also buy some art - garage sales, craigslist, freecycle, or etsy.com are all cheap sources.
how about sponging the wall with chocolate brown, cream, and pink. paint the remaining walls cream or soft pink
