Help...I am trying ot design a 11x11 in square for my family reuion quilt and I dont know were to begin?

Question:and I have three weeks to get this project completed

Answers:
I think it depends on a couple of things; how many other people are making squares? How old are you? And who is the eventual recipient of the quilt? Several years back, my family made one for my great grand mother, and all of the grandchildren & great grandchildren made a square, so there were people from 50 to 12 years old making them. Most of us made one about their own relation to the family, or about Nanna. I made one with the flag of Norway, which is where she came from. Some cousins did abbreviated family trees that showed them and how they were related to Nanna. The more squares there are, the more personalized you can make it. While I did only Nannas flag, another cousin did a square with the four flags of their own grandparents (one of whom was Nanna).

Most of all don't stress, have fun with it. Think of all the fun times you had with your family, and something will come to you. One cousin did a square of Nannas dining room set for a holiday, another (this one was cute, it was the 12 year old) did one with our family as stick figures at a picnic at the lake. So long as you find something meaningful to YOU as a member of your family.

1)You must decide the theme for the re-union. Is it MOM & DAD? is it the colors of our diverse family? Is it forgiveness and hope? Is it a crazy quilt with a swatch of clothing from a lot of different family members? (oh, remmeber when you wore that shirt to your graduation and spilled ketchup on it?)

2) Choose a theme, then you can google your theme and find out all sorts of ideas. Then you can go to a Jo-Anns Fabrics type store and really get expert help.

3) Remember to keep it simple. The quilt is not a reflection of your self worth. You are of value... even if you never make a quilt.

Have fun
you could do your families crest, look up your last name, you should be able to find it.
There are good points in all the answers so far. I think it is also important to know your skill level. A possible answer is to get a photo print and then create a boarder. It would be quick and easy. Many malls have a place where you can get your picture taken and put on a mug, t-shirt, etc. Just be sure the picture is the size you need so you can add the boarder.
Get photos of the family, in different stages of life, and take to copier place and get made into one photo. Then get iron-on paper and copy photo onto this. Iron it onto fabric for your square.
this could be very fun. be unique. get a piece of material in your fav color. make cardboard frame or up to 4 smaller ones. get another piece of material which symbolizes you. maybe your fav animal is cats. get material with cats to put around the cardboard. glue them the the other material except 1 side. take pictures at the family reunion. have them laminated and slide them on your 11x11 in section of the quilt. the reason you are laminating is so you can glue them down and they will not fall out and if you did take them out, they are still protected
