Lacquer THEN stain?

Question:I'm redoing my kitchen cabinets and have all the faces off in the garage. I stripped them, sanded them, and have put 2 coats of stain on so far. My buddy told me that I should put a coat of lacquer on, and then stain them again and then put another coat of lacquer on. Anyone heard of this? He said I would be amazed at the results...I just don't want to be amazed that the stain doesn't adhere to the lacquer after I give it a light sand...

Answers:
stain is a penetrant lacquer is basically a sealer, you are doing the right thing, However you may want to try your friends method but do it on a scrap piece of wood, same type as your cabinets, then if you like the results go for it

no no you are doing it right
you can put stain over it it may darken it abit, but its gona take abit to dry,i agree with the other guy try it on a scrap piece, using the same kinda wood your cabinets are
