What is best to use to make your apartment smell nice?

AirWick's Decosphere is the best and greatest thing I have used. It works for about six weeks for full strength and about 3 months at the smallest amount. I use Papaya and Mango as my favorite scent but they have other ones that work just as well. I have received a lot of compliments.

Oust is great but doesnt last long. I like candles from Home Interiors or Yankee. If you have super tall ceilings, it is difficult to keep the smell in. Also, keep the carpets smelling fresh with Febreze (splurge on the name brand, the generic ones stink!)
You can use scented candles or oils but find the source of the odor and remove it.
If it's just dirty from say cigarette smoke, wash your walls and curtains and spray Febreeze on your fabric furniture and carpet.

If it's stale from being closed up for the winter, you can use the Febreeze for that also.
Candles, they come in so many difference fragrances and not only make things smell wonderful but make a peaceful mood when you turn the lights out in the evening. My personal favorite is Vanilla. Also if you have carpeting in your apartment pick up some carpet fresh at the store next time you vaccum sprinkle a bit this helps make things smell fresh too...=)
Honestly? For me, Glade Plug-Ins. Apartments are only so big, so if you plug one in every other room, it makes the place smell really nice. I've always gotten compliments on how nice my place smells.

As an alternative though, you could go the 'earthy' routre and light incense & cones. Or you could do the aromatherapy thing and buy some oil & an oil burner. Or just boil the aromatic oil in some water and let it dissipate.

Potpourri dishes can be refreshed with oils too.

Good luck!
Air fresheners work well, but they don't seem to last for very long. Scented candles or incense work as well. Try spraying febreeze on the carpets and furniture. Also, and this is going to seem strange, but once I took a handful of fabric softener sheets and stuffed them in the air vents. Don't put them in so far that you can't pull them out, but if you place them there it will circulate that great clean-laundry smell through your house for a few days!! It works great. Hope this helps.
I like Simmer pots- where you put the scented parafin in a dish and the tealight melts them.

They allow for you to change out the scent as frequently as you would like and the scents last a long time, but they melt quickly and fill the room with scent. You can control how strong the scent is by how much you put in. You can also mix and match scents to create one that is more suited to you.

I got mine at a store in the mall (Wicks N Sticks)- I don't think it is a chain store, but I have also seen them at home and garden parties and things like that. I think they may even sell them at Walmart- but probably somewhere like Linens and thins should have them.

There is a new kind that uses a lightbulb rather than a tea light- http://www.scentsy.com. These are pretty cool- they last a long time and deliver scent quickly.

I prefer the Simmer pots to candles, because I can control the scent and change it out often. And I don't have to wait several hours for the top to burn evenly.
A great little indoor herb garden, buy a small plastic self watering planter box, plant in rosemary, basil, oregano and thyme. You will always have fresh herbs on hand, your friends will love your cooking and you wil have a fantastic smelling kitchen/ courtyard or lounge room.
