Just roughing in the fireplace and want an electrical outlet on the mantel.?

Question:Do I install it on the wall or actually flat in the mantel so it cannot be seen? Do I centre it or place it at the outside edge of the mantel? All according to code of course - but the builder did give me options. Anyone have this done and if so where did you install it?

Answers:
Put them to the side in the wall. It would not look right mounted on the mantel. The receptacle has to be in a wall box or handy box, so recess it in the wall.

Our fireplace comes out from the wall and there are two recepticles, one on either on either side, so christmas lights and such can be plugged in or there's a spot for a vacuum cleaner etc. they don't show from the front.
in the brickwork just above the mantle so you can plug in a clock or light would be ok. i wouldnt put it in the mantle tho...
