Dull frontyard?

Question:i just bought a home which the ex owner had covered all front and back yard with cement. could someone out there suggest what should i do to create a new green and flowery yard. it was so dull without any green.

Answers:
Hi there,

As you said you want flowery yard and Garden, thus supposing you want to utilize the area for some simple vegetable plants as well, you got to use thick deep soil. you can:

check how much deep is the cement foundation
> if lesser remove it, put soil instead and use for all plants.
> if it is thick pot soil on top of it and use for flowery plants only

Good luck.

Unless you are going to go through the work of ripping up all of the concrete and bringing in new topsoil, your best option is containers. You can get pots of different sizes for smaller plants. I built a small raised bed on my patio with bricks. A box 6" tall is plenty deep enough for planting most annuals. If you are thinking of vegetables or bushes or other perennials, you need at least 12-18" of soil to grow well.
