Good luck.
hello. im currently a graduating interior design student and based on my observations, these are the pros and cons:

pros:

- if u are talented and creative, the ideas would just come off naturally thus making you more competitive in the field.

- money is good especially on developed countries; nonetheless, if you have made yourself known, people will sought after you around the world.

- being a professional interior designer speaks for itself. it is in level with lawyers, doctors, and other professionals.

-you'll meet and deal with different and interesting people from carpenters to wealthy clients and so much more.

-you have the ability to beautify and improve one's life. you can even change their lives forever.

cons:

-you put services rendered above oneself. sometimes you compensate even your own money just to make things be better than specified.

-you are accountable for every specifications you make.

-it is a dog-eat-dog world. you stay in the game if you work hard for it. there are a lot of tough competitions out there, but just focus on your goal to be the BEST and ENJOY it.

i cant think much of cons because if you really aspire to be one, you'll accept all the challenges and circumstances that comes with it. all careers has pros and cons; it's just the matter of choosing a desired career that works for you.

God Bless!
If you want to work in both residential and commercial, go for your commercial degree. If you get your residential degree and then decide you want to work in commercial, it won't fly.
You got excellent answers already! Good luck!
