What do you think about IKEA furniture?
Question:
Answers:
I think the design is good to excellent, the quality is average.
Just examine the materials and decide how long it should last.
it's not very durable.
I don't like it. I have an "old soul" and prefer real furniture made of real wood that has the usual weight and finish (read antiques).
Not well made. I assemble things all the time and their stuff is not well engineered.
Unique design!
As an IKEAphile, I think it depends on what kind of furniture you buy. I've had IKEA folding chairs that have lasted for years and are still in great shape. Then, there's a dresser that I'm about to send to furniture heaven. It did, though, last 5 years.
I think, too, that there's a definite quality difference between the furniture that you build as opposed to furniture that comes already built. From my experience, the later lasts longer.
And, lastly, IKEA recently introduced a "higher priced" line of furniture that's of better quality called "IKEA Stockholm." I haven't seen it up close, only online, but it looks very, very nice. (Visit www.ikea-usa.com and look for the link in the lower right-hand corner. There's a great interactive presentation.)
Overall, though, I think the design you get for the money with IKEA is hard to beat. Just my 2ยข. Which at IKEA would probably buy you a shot glass or something.
