Is it possible to install carpet over ceramic tile? I don't want to remove the tile and don't want a rug

Question:Can you recommend anyone? I checked with Home Depot and they don't do that.

Answers:
You can't install it over all the tile because there is no where to glue down and brace the carpeting. You can install over linoleum because the nails can go through it.

Carpet can go over tile, I don't think it is recommended. Lowe's might do it.
you would have a problem with the tack that holds the carpet to the wall unless you just wanted to remove the tile from around the border of the room., lay you pad and then proceed. if you ever wanted to take it up you could make a pretty border around the room to match your tile.
try Lowes home depot is not very good or try calling a pro its gonna be hard to put down the tack stip on tile thats prob why they wont do it try lowes they may help if no lowes around try a carpet store you can do a local search on yahoo it should be able to find someone close
I can be done.... But to do it properly, you would have to "Skim Coat" over the tile with floor leveler to fill the "grout lines". By doing this you would more or less ruin the ceamic.

You then place the carpet pad (MAKE SURE to use a bonded or rebond pad.) Then have carpet stretched over.

Remember you will be ruining the ceramic tile. Are you SURE you'd want to do this?

As far as the tack strip issue.. It too can be done. Not easy, but can be done. No different than laying carpet over a concrete slab (like in most basements)

Good Luck to you,

Dave

If you only want a "Temporary" carpet, you can "loose lay". the carpet. Easily a "do-it-yourslf" project. Buy enough of the "rebond" pad I would recommend 1/2" 8 lb rebond pad. Do not skimp on the pad. laying it over the ceramic a cheap pad would soon break down and you will see the grout lines start to appear in the carpet.

Cut the pad to about 2 or 3 inches from the walls. Taping the seams with duct tape. Then lay your carpet over the pad, trimming it as close as humanly possible to the wall I would remove baseboards first then reinstall baseboards to help hold carpet in place. The use nail down type metal strips at doorways. Remember by "loose laying" there is a chance that you vacuum may suck the carpet off the floor near the edges, but when your ready for tile again just pull it up.

Hope this helps
drill holes in the tiles for tack strip and stretch in cpt and pad
yes you can do that they make special tack strips for concrete that would work. i dont think that home depot would do that but a carpet installer probly would. but theres a better option. they make carpet now with the pad attatched, i sell it at menards and i just helped a couple expecting the other day with the same problem. really great, you can either just lay the carpet down or put some tape under there to hold it in place. i think this would work great for you. check out lowes home depot or SAVE BIG MONEY AT MENARDS and will find something i guarentee it.
take the nails that you would normally use to nail to floor out of the strips...use liquid nails to attach to tile but not in grout line.give about 2 days to dry good and stretch carpet .when removing carpet strips get some goof off remover and it will take a bit of time but it will take glue from tile and look same as when you put carpet over it.
