How do I paint my bedroom?
Question:These decorating reality shows drive me nuts. They assume you know the basics. I want to paint my bedroom but I need to get some very basic information. Do I paint the ceiling first? Do I use the same type of paint for the walls and ceiling. Should doors and window surrounds have gloss paint or flat? Can anyone help me please?
Answers:
YOu can use the same type of paint on each item. But, make sure the ceiling is ceiling paint or you will have a lot of drips. You paint the ceiling first. Then the wood trim, window, doors etc. When you get to the doors, paint the in sit trim if there is any and then do the edges. When you do the walls, go from top to bottom. You can use a roller or a brush. Good Luck, hope this helps you, I have do a lot of painting, my brother in law is in this business and he gives me hints. One of his favorite sayings to me when I don't know for sure what color to use is " When in doubt, use white, you can always go over it and make it bright'
This was the best explanation I could find. I trust Bob Vila and have always loved his shows. Hope this helps; good luck with the painting.. you can do it!

it depends on what colors and paint types. i would say, since you are a beginner, don't paint the ceiling. tape off all around the ceiling, windows, doors, outlets, and light switches. the easiest paint that i have found to work with is a satin paint. if you are painting a darkish color, you might want to primer first so that you get an even color. make sure the paints and primers you are using are WATER based... very important. the worse thing you can do is start your painting experiences by painting with an oil based paint.
Bob Vila is an idiot.
Paint the ceiling first, "cut in" all the trim, edges and corners with a small trim brush, after all the windows, door frames, trim, corners are cut in with the trim brush, do whats left with a roller, going from floor to ceiling, moving laterally untill your done.
I echo the person who recommended water based paints. They are safer to use, easier to clean up, and better for the environment.
