What's the easiest way to stain a privacy fence? Do you have to do both sides?

Question:I can't get to a section of the fence to be able to stain both sides.

Answers:
I had the same problem. I've stained mine using a roller. Depending on the type of fence you have, using the roller doesn't get in between the boards. At first, I tried using a brush in between the boards, but that became tedious and difficult really fast. I also tried a suggestion from my neighbor to use a bug sprayer, but that was really messy and I didn't get even coverage. But, I still have the street side of the fence stained with the exception of in between the boards and most of the inside sections covered with the exception of the portion I was unable to reach. Thankfully, plants mostly hide it. Most of my neighbors hired a painting company to do their fences and they used sprayer machines.

Hire a guy to spray stain it. Have him arrange permission with your neighbors to paint the opposite side -- the courtesy will be appreciated. Good luck. :o)
Stand on a ladder, use a long-handle roller, and lean over the top of the fence to do the job. Or just let the neighbor take care of it if he doesn't want to have to stare at an un-stained fence all day.
i do fences for a living and we also stain. no you dont have to do both sides. its suggested but. check with your local companies and see if the offer it. we charge between .25 and .75 cents. we use a pressure system to stain with, and offer a 3 year guarantee against fade.it has uv and mold and mildew inhibitors also. good luck and we travel
