We are going to be finishing our basement... what's a good "theme"?
Question:We thought about doing a log cabin-ish theme... (i.e. moose, bears, deer, etc.)... or a beachy theme... any other brilliant ideas?!
Answers:
You should "theme" your basement with something you are interested in. Play poker alot? Go for a Vegas/gambling/poker room theme. Love baseball or football- go for that. Love Jimmy Buffett? Go for a Carribean theme. Will the kids be down there most of the time? Maybe a kid friendly theme. Play off one of your interest. We finished our room over the garage into a whole game/ pool table/ men's den sort of theme. My husband put his dad's pool table up there and he bought a new bar. We even finished the half bath in a playboy theme to go with the whole men's den theme. He hung a Bud mirror he won at a fundraiser up over the bar and it really turned out cool. So, just focus on one interest and expound on that.
Log cabin is totally awesome, and I also like a decades theme (I personally love the 70's).
Our basement in our old house was a 50's diner. It had a bar in that style with a soda fountain, a 50's jukebox, and appropriate wall hangings.
Our basement now is half set like a movie theatre (tier seats, blue lights, etc etc) and half like an arcade: pinball machines, slot machine, 70's jukebox.
Themes are very overpowering, and you will tire of them very fast. instead, use a color pallette that is relaxing and you can use splashy colors in the pillows, or rug etc. Just an opinion. Good luck.

is your basement quite big? a log cabin theme would be great; it may also be quite expensive. if you push thru with it, try not to stuff/hang too much things on the wall so as not to clutter the space. other alternatives would be a game room theme or a home theater/family room theme. Your ideas should revolve around the question "what would this room need to be(a game room, family room etc)"
Good luck!!
