How much is it to convert a house into 2 apartments?


Question:I'm thinking of buying a house to convert it to 2 flats, 1 on each level.
I would like to know what kind of costs i will be incuring and any planning regulations?

It depends wholly on the infrastructure within the house, specifically the plumbing. You also have to plan for two safe methods of egress. My guess is that if you are zoned for residential that doing multi-family might be a problem--I would begin by going to the city and asking them the requirements for such a dwelling. You could probably do it surreptitiously but if there were a fire, you'd go to jail if someone got hurt.
