My home was built in 1953 row houses type im wondering if the flooring is hardwood ?

You're gonna have to pull up some carpet and look.
It really depends on what region you're in. Many areas are too humid for a slab foundation, so they had to have a crawl space and would probably have wood flooring.
You won't know 'til you look.
1 & 1/2 inch slats do indicate some type of hardwood.
call in A wood floor refinishing company
they can tell you how much it would cost to refinish
and even an educated guess on what kind of wood you have.
