I Just Got a Bid on a New Deck/Patio?
Question:We think we were quoted a fair price last night to build a 12 x 16 deck with a 3x3 landing and 13 steps. We live in the Washington, D.C. area. The quote is for the high-quality, maintenance-free compisite decking material. We were quoted $11,800. We were quoted an additional $4,000 for an adjoining brick pavers patio that would include a 6-inch retaining wall. So the whole project is $15k and some change or $11,800 for just the deck itself. Thanks in advance for any feedback.

I am not sure how much you have shopped this project but get every estimate you can... after all most estimates are free.
I will be somewhat of a burden to get more prices because I suppose you want to get going, but I may save you quite a bit of money if you do.
While getting bids make sure you compare prices so you are comparing apples with apples if you know what I mean. Check the contractor's credentials, insurance and payment methods closely.
I usually charge 40% to start, %50 when completed and if my customer is satisfied then they pay me the last %10. This is a good business practice.
get at least 3 estimate and get referrals. seems kind of high, but sometimes you get what you pay for
I don't really see a question, but as for comments I'd say to get as many quotes as you can (at least 3). That's the only way you'll really be able to gauge what a fair price is.
