Decorating a kitchen with a mustard colored old stove?
Question:Any Ideas on not trying to go fully mustard color but decorating a kitchen that has a stove that color with dark brown kitchen cabinets. (Needs a upgrade-dont have the money).
Answers:
There is a couple ways you can go.
1. Retro: Paint the cabinets in a gloss paint in a very pale cream color. Accent in reds with hand towels, canisters, etc. Toss up some inexpensive art on the walls such as retro kitchen ad's for vegetables, seed packets, etc.
2. Go tuscan or italian: distress the cabinets (clean and sand the current cabinets, paint in a cream color, lightly sand raised edges to burn through to the stain), add some cork as a backspash, accent in moss greens in the window treatments, towels, etc.
Stick with white. You can't go wrong there. And if you have no money to upgrade, then white is the cheapest color of paint to buy.
y not re-paint u'r stove? They do make heat resistant appliance paint.
As far as u'r cabinets, u can re-paint them & that would brighten up u'r kitchen. Clean them lst w/ TSP then lightly sand, or use Kilz or Bin then paint. U could jst paint the doors & leave the rest wood or visa versa... It would give it a different look. U could even paint wash u'r cabinets to add a bit of color.
Use suttle colors in greens and bieges to compliment. Earth tones and organic colors are the in thing these days. Accessiories can make any home warm and inviting. For a kitchen this might include, table cloths, towels, center peices, large vases for floors, canisters, window coverings, pictures etc. Short of money? Check out the second hand or thrift shops in your area. Great things great buys.
