Are the materials sold at outlet flooring stores the same quality as those sold at big retailers like Lowes?

Question:We are trying to install laminate floors in our home and I am wondering about the quality of the materials we purchase. Is what you purchase at the big flooring outlet stores like Flooring America just as good as those sold at Lowes?

Answers:
You have a better chance of getting good quality from the specialized flooring outlet than a big department store chain. Stores like Lowes and Home Depot buy materials in bulk from the lowest wholesaler. Their materials are inconsistent because the next time they buy, it may be cheaper from a different supplier. In that case you couldn't match what you started with. If you buy from the big chain stores, make sure you buy enough to finish the job all at once, because having to buy a little more, you probably won't be able to match the grains. Going to a specialize store, you have a better chance.

Yes. you can even get them at Sam's Club for a reasonable price. Looks great and easy/fast to install.
Yes! When purchasing laminate floors, compare the thickness of the finish layer. It will be marked in mils on the package. Then more mils, the thicker the finish layer, the longer your floor will last. Proper installation is KEY. Don't forget to leave room around the perimeter for expansion.. That is the single most common mistake in DIY installation.
