I just built a new fence and I was watering my lawn while water hit the fence now some of the pickets are warp
Question:This was done in the hot sun. Will the wood warp back or is there some simple way to fix this. The rails are placed at equal distance.
Answers:
You don't give enough details, what type of wood is it? how is it fastened to the rails? was there any sealer or paint applied?
I think it's unlikely that a few drops of water would cause the wood to warp.
The wood will not wrap back ! If this is a ACQ lumber type
you will need to seal it up fast with a good water proofing stain or clear sealer . ACQ is fast grown yellow pine and is
very unstable when it comes into the elements . For the rest
you will have to replace the wrapped pieces of wood to get it
right and seal . Best to screw everything down too , screws
hold down 50 times better than nails . Good Luck !!
The problem is that lumber yrads & home improvement stores "claim" their lumber is kiln dried or seasoned, but it is GREEN. We have gotten screwed on that more than once. We bought & paid for dried lumber, but it oozed pitch & when it did ACUTALLY dry, it warped & shrank.
I am a fence contractor and I have not seen high quality pickets in many years. To combat this problem of low quality and green lumber I use three rails on 72" high fences. This limits movement of the pickets.
You might add another rail or a 1x2 or 1x4 at the top of the fence to hold the boards together so they don't feather. I suggest the top because that is where crookedness is most easily spotted. obviously if you had stringers at top and bottom you should be thinking about the middle.
