How do I remove paint off old woodwork without ruining it?
Question:Cheapest way?
Answers:
I say, use a heat gun. Heat up paint wait till it bubbles up, and scrape off paint. Chemicals can get messy, and you can get brain damage from the fumes...Sanding the paint will only gum up your sand paper, and that can get expensive...You can get the heat gun at any equipment rental or you can buy one for $50.00 on up....
Chemical stripper ..depending on how many coats are on it may take several applications and much patience. Just be carefull and follow the directions on the can.
Cans of brush-on paint remover.
Both the cheapest and best home paint remover is Citristrip sold at home centers. This will remove the paint and other finish without damaging the wood or even the patina. It is not so obnoxious at the old MEK strippers.
Its the paint water based is it alot of paint? If it is waterbased that will be real ez
There are 2 ways that I do it. First there are chemical strippers that will remove paint from wood without doing damage to the wood. Use a stiff nylon bristle brush, very fine steel wool and a putty knife to remove the paint. Be careful not to scratch the wood. The other method I use is a heat gun. You just have to be careful not to let the heat stay in place too long. Another tool to make stripping paint off of furniture especially in ornate woodworks is a dental pick. Gets in really small cracks. BE PATIENT and everything will be OK
First of all you shouldn't be stripping your interior woodwork with a heat gun your putting you and your property in a high risk for a fire, guess these people who suggest these ideas don't realize just how hot and dangerous a heat gun or iron can be indoors or outdoors. Get yourself a product called "Strypeze" made by Savorgran comes in a paste and will cling good to vertical surfaces such as woodwork, depending on how many coats of paint will determine how many applications of strypeze. I wouldn't waste my money on those citrus based strippers, yes they smell good but they take too long, open a window if the smell bothers you, Good luck Les the painter
