What are the decorative square things covered in fabric that people are using for window treatments?

Question:I have been to several open houses lately and I see where decorators are putting these square things on top of interior windows. They are usually covered in nice fabric. I have no idea what they are called or where to get them. They look custom but I am sure that you can purchase them somewhere! Thanks for your help!

Answers:
They are definitely called cornice boxes. Here are some links for making your own... much less expensive than having them made by a designer...

And they don't have to be made from wood... you can even do them with foam...

And you can make them in all sorts of sizes and shapes... the only limit is your imagination...

I often make cornice boards for clients... it's a great way to dress a window for low cost...

LOL, they are called Cornice Boxes! They are very pricey if a designer makes them or if they are special ordered at a department or decor store, but very easy and inexpensive to make yourself!

Get some 1/2 inch MDF (medium density fiberboard) and cut the width and height you want, then cut some small squares to attach to the ends and a rectangle to fit the top. Cover them with quilt batting and fabric pulled tight and stapled on the back side. Hang with L brackets! The only tools you need are a jig or circular saw, screwdrivers, staple gun and scissors!
cornice boards...that need NOT be made of board, they can be made of foam found st JoAnn's fabrics. You can make your own, they come in kits or ^^^^^^^^^^. Easy.
