We are having new carpet laid this week. We are suppose to pay the installers seperately.?

Question:We were going to pay the whole bill up front. But, the guy at the store said to wait until after the install. The reason he told us was that he wanted to make sure we were satisfied. Other then obvious bubbles, what else should I be looking for to know it was done right/well... ?

Look for how the carpet looks at the edge of doors (if it meets an area without carpet). Look for "strings" hanging off the edges on stairways. Make sure they vacuum before they leave - that will help find any small problems. Make sure they don't have any tacks or nails sticking up through the carpet on the edges around the walls.if you haven't chosen the best underpad - call them up and make sure you do. It makes all the differenc ein the world and the price difference is so minimal. If the carpet is going in the basement - chose the kind of underpad that can handle moisture and won't get moldy. This can save you a fortune if you have even a small water flood or issue. You may have to do a bit of touch up painting on the floor moulding - perfectly normal. They have to use a tool and smash their knees with the tool into your moulding to stretch the carpet. This may cause slight knicks here and there. Keep your windows open for a few days (if you can) because that new carpet smell is pretty toxic. Lastly - if they don't want your money until they are done - that is a GOOD thing! You have all the power. Good luck! PS - NEVER pay ANY contractor upfront...maybe 1/3rd up front never more. Too many crooks out there.

Check the seams to ensure the pattern matches properly.

Check for low or high spots in the carpet.

Check all edges to ensure the carpet was tucked under the base trim.

Make sure they did not bang up your furniture or walls.

Good Luck!
just look around the walls and make sure it looks tight and also for patch spots.
make sure they lay this smooh and theres no wrinkles...make sure they use carpet padding underneath and also that the seams dont show... and make sure it goes to the wall..
if its patterned shouldnt matter unless they butt pieces together...
Make sure that the carpet purchased will still be guaranteed if you pay the installer seperately. This sounds kind of fishy, usually carpet companies hire the installers and pay them from the total purchase. Ask why you have to pay the installers seperately, check the company with the Better Business Bureau. Be careful get an invoice from the installer stating that they were instructed by the carpet company to install. This may help if you have a problem with the carpet and they refuse to replace it or repair it. .
I've never heard of paying the installer separately. The carpet retailer typically builds the installation price into your invoice so that you are aware of the cost to you.
I would be wary that the installer could charge you extra by claiming extra labour time.
If you do decide to pay the full amount after install, make sure you get IN WRITING that the price you were quoted prior is the price you will pay...not more.
If they are a reputable company then that is how they should be doing business.
