What are your suggestions for decorating a Greek fast food resturaunt?
Question:I need ideas for decorating a small restaurant. We serve Gyros along with Chicago style hotdogs etc. Fast food place.
Any suggestions in the decor, paint color and where to purchase items at reasonable prices?
Answers:
old style columns are available at your local hardware store, (usually special order) although they are expensive, if you know someone with a good-sized band saw they can be cut lengthwise and use up against an existing wall, so you get 2 visual columns for the price of one, also the traditional greek flora, such as grapes, olive trees, etc.. should be available in artificial form and found easily using Yahoo! web search.
Try the library for a video of Greece and see if that might help.
Since this is a fast food place, you don't want anything that will be hard or time-consuming to clean. Stay away from the plastic or rubber grapes/leaves you find at crafts stores like Hobby Lobby or Michael's, unless you use them in a very limited amount in a place that they won't get as dirty and would be easy to clean (maybe as a decorative arrangement in the restroom). I would stick with flat surfaces as much as possible - like murals or framed prints. Something easy to wipe clean. A stenciled border of the standard-but-lovely "Greek Key" design would be nice along the tops of the walls (maybe white or cream colored "plaster" walls with a blue and or gold Greek Key design). Maybe you have an artist friend who could design murals of ancient Greeks on your walls. I wish I could recommend someone for you, but I do not know your budget or location. I think the columns suggested by someone else would make a very nice accent to your restaurant, too!
