Need help with decorating a teen Hangout!?
Question:My mom recently gave me a space (about 1 1/2 to 2 1/2 bedrooms with another room attached to it about a little larger than a bedroom) to turn into a hangout for me and my friends. I know i am putting in a computer, some beanbags, a T.V. (not with cable though =( ) a 50's retro table with stools and a mini fridge. Can anyone give any more suggestions as to what color it should be painted, what to do for carpeting, what 2 do with the second room, and what else to put in these rooms. I kind of want the retro 50's look. Any suggestions would be appreciated!!

I had a large bedroom when I was younger (about 2 bedrooms in size--the wall was knocked out b/w them). I absolutely LOVED it. Here are a few of my suggestions:
*I had one side of my room carpeted (a dark grey/black-ish) and the otherside tiled (black w/ grey grout).
*I put a large room-rug (grey) on the tile.
*I had a black entertainment center with TV, Nintendo (yah--dating myself a little here), stereo, and fridge.
*I had a couple tall directors chairs.
*A fold-out foam couch/bed---which I loved to leave folded out with lots and lots of coordinating pillows and throws for lounging.
*May I suggest a futon.
*Colors: shade of green/teal, and black.
*some old framed posters (or reporductions) on the walls would be fun
*just make sure that you make it to accomodate MANY people comforatably.floor pillows, lots of seating, maybe levels or multiple TVs
In the UK the "in" thing this year for teen rooms is to decorate the walls with graffitti. Go wild!
For the room that your gonna be hanging in most of the time, put lots and lots of pillows, over-sized pillows to sit on, for the walls do one wall with nothing but graffiti, have each one of your friends who comes over write their name and something nice about you. There are so many colorful shower cur tins, you could hang a tension rod with one on it across the whole wall. Or go to Lowes/Home Depot and they have a section with cut outs of circles, plaid, stripes. Take different sizes of hula hoops and cover with diff fabrics. You'll have circles all over the walls. Another idea, take a portion of the wall and hang a piece of trellis, every time you and your friends are out and find something cool, hang it. after awhile you'll have ur own collage of random stuff. The 50's retro will get boring after awhile. Depending whats around you, Meijers/Kmart look in the curtin area, they have a section for young girls. Bright purple, blues, stripes. alot of them have loops on top, you can take those loops and hook them on a drawer knob that you can screw into the wall, and drape. I guess what im trying to say is make it colorful, eye popping. And the section that has the computer, above it put cork board, and frame it in. You'll want a room that you can relax in with not so eye popping walls. good luck
