What color should I paint my living room/dining room?

Question:I am moving into a new house next week and I want to paint my livingroom/dining room. Right now it is a very boring tan color. The carpet is a off white color. I really like vibrant/bold colors but what is throwing me off is my furniture. I have an oversized red couch and L shaped chair.
What color would look good with the bright red furniture?

Answers:
how creative are you? i think the tuscan look with a bit of red, gold, light yellow mix would be really striking. i will be using it in my dining room with a slate gray trim...it is a paint technique, looks like plaster, kind of sultry looking.

dark blue
If you have bright red furniture, you can't have really bright walls. A gold/yellow would look nice with red though...
ivory would go really nice with red
A deep brown color, like mocha.try deep greens too.
gold would match, but you'd be in McDonald's land! I'd suggest a dark blue or maybe black.that will set off the red nicely!
I also go for ivory, but I might consider having one wall in a striking color (dark shade that matched yr furniture),,As for the blue I feel it is a cold color for living and dining...Go warm
We have a red couch and we did a pretty green (doesn't look like Christmas though) and a dark creme with black accents.
An earthy color, one with hues of green brown and red, like these.
Yellow, purple, light sage green, black. My neighbors have purple walls with white trim and red furniture. I wouldn't pick it, but it really donsn't look as bad as it sounds! Go for it, you can repaint if you don't like it!
lemon cream
light - medium gray
hunter green
1] paint walls ivory, with wall behind sofa red/ivory stripe.
2] lemon or gold, but you must add prints with the red/yellow and one other color or, like the gal said - McDonalds.
3] any natural green - celery, sage, leaf, hunter[ Christmas!]
4] baby, sky, turquoise, royal,[ patriotic!] or teal blue
5] charcoal gray, with stripes on sofa wall
Any bright color alternating with a neutral would be great, but make sure a print and accessories use the same colors.
hm!!!I would says .Go to a paintshop and ask for help??Tell them the colour of the furniture
go blue, its a relaxing color stay away from orange it will make you hungrier red can be OK but only when its a blue base yellows have a tendency to fade
I think a butterscotch color on the walls would be warm and go well with your red furniture. Cream colored trim on the widows. Buy or make throw pillows that go with your red couch and have the wall color in them, too.
This same question was asked a few days back.
