What type of flooring should i use in my living room, will have log burner in room .?
Question:hi me again in my living room i am installing a log burner and dont know what type of floor covering to go for, infront of burner there is original red tile/brick harth, hubby wants black/grey slate floor i think this will be too cold? what do you think thanks xx
Answers:
slate in an excellent choice.
textured ceramic or stone tile is another idea.
Slate would be great and is surprisingly warm to the touch!
We have wood Laminate flooring. I really like it because it is easy to clean and looks nice with our rustic/cabin decor. I agree slate would be cold unless you have floor radiant heat installed. It would also be a pain to clean because of the texture.
my parents have a log burner in their front room and they have got a nice deep red tile around it which is great, the colour the flames give off go really nice with it. and yes it a very warm colour as well.
also remember to clean the glass regularly, it gets soot on it and if left becomes impossible to clean
its your preference but slates the best choice, you can put it down yourself with ease, and any damage or chipping on natural slate can be wiped over with sealer and its as good as new.also you can get a thousand different variations in colour and underfloor heating if its too cold for you
Slate looks fantastic but can be very cold and is visually more suited to kitchens than living rooms. Even if you do have a log burner, you will struggle to heat the room and keep it feeling warm with slate flooring. If you do install it, I would seriously recommend that you add underfloor heating.
Personally, I would suggest either engineered wood flooring (like laminate but with a layer of real wood on top) or solid wood floor boards. Wood has a cosier feel, and it can look as contemporary as you want it to. Use rugs to add more colour and warmth to the room and to tie your scheme together.
